What? This doesn’t seems correct. You can 100% use just worm casting and that is 100% healthy.
Do the coffee grounds have to be brewed?
Loved the video. Simple, effective, also exciting to try my own. UK here
If you're gonna talk about agent orange in relation to anything, make sure to bring up how the US knew how toxic it was before using it, and how it was as much a defoliant as it was a chemical weapon against both the vietnamese and the American soldiers who were coming into contact with it.
When using humic acid to neutralize Chloramine, how much is needed, how long does it take to neutralize and how long will it last?
I'd never go more than 5% to maybe 10-20% worm castings even before watching this. Who'd do more though? Thanks for the topic anyways though!
Where do we order worms at
If you want to improve your garden or beds it's a good idea to promote raising your local earthworms through adding soaken woodchips, soaken paper & cardboard, clean manure, soaken leafs, kitchen wastes, to the soil. Red California worms are excelent to raise because you can use them to make Humus and to feed birds, fish, cattle, reptiles, I don't know how efficient diggers they can be.
Last week I noticed some thin 1” green worms in my bin. What are these?
Ken from Dallas
Bald Ben Affleck and Monday morning Adam Sandler are spitting facts and laying down knowledge droppings on these live streams.
Steve this is by far the best and simplest explanation of CEC. Thank you and keep up the good work.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 this is wild 😜
Can I use mikrobs tea on my worm bin to boost microbial activity? Too late I just added it
It would be helpful to have side by side comparisons of the good vs. bad worms. Visually seeing how each of them look and act is a better way to understand the differences than simply describing them - at least for those of us who are visual learners. Thanks for the video.
Do you use the 5gal as is or do you dilute it so much with water to cover the required area?
Can you also get away with a sifter and a couple of screen sizes?
Yes you could.... we have a small scale sifter available! Extra screens are available too. shop.urbanwormcompany.com/products/urban-worm-compost-screener
This is a shitty story
Can the bedding just be paper and cardboard?
Why do all these conferences take place in January it makes it impossible to travel😅
I want one to catch those sticky worms!!🪱🪱🪱
Love “organic horizon of the soil”!! Did you coin that one?
You can offer a deal with restaurants to collect their food for a fraction of the cost they pay in garbage removal?
I think of it as a better way to trench compost. I use a 5 gallon bucket for mine. I don't use it for vermi compost I just use it to bring fertility to the soil in that bed I am using it in . The earth worms in my garden work fine did not need to buy anything special.
That's a great way to look at it. Just adding that organic matter to the soil will attract native worms!
Isnt this the same organism that the japanese put in a petri dish with oats representing cities, and the slime mold created a map for subway systems that was more efficient than the human made subway system they already had in place...
I had not heard of that but how cool would that be?!
How dare you call them "asian" jumping worms.... apparently thats racist... even though theyre from Asia
Thanks for sharing!!!
You bet
Do you have to re-bag the casting you resell? If so m, how? Or do you know of a really budget friendly way to bag castings (labor is not an issue)
So we used to make our own castings here but we began selling far more of them than we could make so we have a partner farm who supplies us with bulk that we can rebag and sell but we've also partnered on a more retail-friendly bag. These fancier bags are generally unnecessary unless you're trying to get into more corporate retail stores. We have used Uline Kraft bakery bags for the 2lb bags and Uline sandbags with hangtags from VistaPrint. Both are pretty cheap. I actually have a business course that covers vermicomposting and vermiculture and I stress why working your tail off to start a small vermicomposting operation isn't always a good idea. I think it's much more profitable to buy from a bulk supplier (like us, to be honest) and resell locally at 3x markup in most cases. We can deliver a 2250lb tote anywhere in the lower 48 states for around $1250, all-in. That's about 55 cents per pound. Here's a link to check out the course: urbanwormcompany.thrivecart.com/urban-worm-u-business-course/ Here's a link to our bulk worm castings: shop.urbanwormcompany.com/products/bulk-worm-castings-2000lbs
Wait so youre just a reseller yourself?? Not saying its bad im just surprised. Makes me wonder if thats the better option for me to start is just reselling..
Yes...I am now. See the response above!
Fecaphilia is real
Thank you brother
You got it!
I bought the UWB. Can't wait to get it set up.
Hope you enjoy it Anthony!
These worms produce a lot of castings. However the castings don't have the nutritive value for plants that other worm castings have. The microbiome in the worm gut should determine the qualities of the castings. Some humans with digestive irregularities have benefitted from fecal transplants. I wonder whether the microbiome of a Canadian nightcrawler or red wiggler could be transferred to the jumping worms.
I'm not sure how that would work unless you did a transplant on all of the worms out there
How do we get the course?
Hey Kevin, I think you've likely gotten the emails by now but if not, here's the link! urbanwormcompany.thrivecart.com/urban-worm-u-business-course/
What is biochar?
😂🤣😂 You should definitely be teaching 5th grade birds & the bees class!!🪱🪱🪱
Ha! I'd be giggling right along with the kids

So, what SHOULD you do to revive old, dry worm castings... just add water and air?
For dry old, worm castings, I think adding air, water, and a food source like leaf mold would wake up any dormant microbes
@@UrbanWormCompany I have an indoor bin for worm castings... could I use something like flour made of oats, lentils, bird-feed-corn? It seems like leaf mold might bring in some unwanted bugs.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
My pleasure Anthony!
Okay, quick question I bought two pounds of ANC's and used then to start a bin and my second UWB. I used a combination of coffee, spent grounds, and shredded paper. After 2 or 3 days, my worms effectively melted. I saved some from my UWB, but only a handful or two and I'm going to see if I can transfer then to a bin to try and repopulate. I also believe that flies, not BSF, laid eggs in the grain and those maggots may have harmed my worms. I have since thrown the rest of my spent grain in the compost to get it to start breaking down. Hopefully, I won't make that mistake again. My question is, what is the best setup to give my few remaining worms the best chance to repopulate. Any suggestions would be great.
The 25-33% number is the food waste and bedding in total. Most of that will be food waste when it comes to weight. And I think that 2kg of waste per day is very aggressive but could be done with a very full mature bag with a healthy ecosystem of worms and bacteria.
So, when you order you only get to chose one size of screen? Or do you get all sizes?
Hi Julie, uou get one of the screen sizes! You can buy discounted screens at checkout though!
So, where is the rest of the video? Is there a link?
Here you go! ruclips.net/video/ieAbk0VJbWk/видео.html
That seemed a little hurtful. Leo never makes catty remarks about you.
I'm trying to troll him into a response but he's playing hard to get!
@@UrbanWormCompany Lol. Probably afraid to take a position.. my Dad used to say not to start a journey if you were worried about where it might wind up
Carbonic acid is neutral or negatively charged in the form of carbonate or bicarbonate. Unless you mix it with a super acid, it is not positively charged.
Yeah, either it’s bullshit or he’s referring to the protons released by the carbonic acid disassociating in water.
I feel like Tom Hanks in BIG "I don't get it"....but want to!
Yeah, biochar is one of the harder to explain soil amendments!
Carbon to nitrogen ration 20/1 so 20 carbons to 1 nitrogen? That means carbon rich low nitrogen.
So "carbon-rich" is anything 30:1 or over in my book. Even something like chicken-manure which is as high in nitrogen as you can get in terms of manure, is still 6:1.
What about duck💩?
Not sure about that one!
I took a couple 5 gallon buckets, took the bottoms off and drilled holes in the sides and started my compost with 100 ordered worms. I now have thousands and have bring some inside to make compost all year around. I’m constantly finding worms all over my garden when I plant and they even snuck into my above ground hot compost set up. I will admit that my garden was hand tilled so it was soft and fluffy when I first set it up, but I practice regenerative agriculture so I try to not disturb the soil as much as I can and the worms are still everywhere. So I would say that if you do a below ground set up correctly, they will create a good product to spread around AND go through your earth. I’ve only recently had a couple of the deep dwelling nightcrawlers come in to take some food with them, but I also attract springtails and isopods (which I collect as pets) and have a very healthy ecosystem. The only real downside is that they are, in fact, a pain in the back to harvest. I’ve settled on pulling everything out and sifting through it above ground.
Yeah, it definitely works better if you start with fluffy soil from the beginning. Most folks aren't doing that though!
First time this happened to my pile was in the winter, my first thought was “Dang, it must be too cold for bacteria, but maybe there are some fungi doing some work”. It just happened again, and my heart drops, thinking I had done something wrong. So good to know that these are essential compost pile workers!
Yep! They're good guys
Hi sir. Can i feed Chicken manure to earthworms?
Yes you can, but also add a carbon-rich bedding to offset the high nitrogen in the manure. It's a very hot manure.
